Working with various municipalities in Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio, Bob Ray’s Land
Clearing crews clear right of ways and maintain them and help to keep utility lines free from branches and brush that would cause power interruptions. The crews also clear land for new developments that are being constructed.
The brush material and scrub trees taken from these sites are then turned into chips,
which are burned in conjunction with natural gas, or made into hardwood mulch by Bob
Ray Co.’s sister company, Natural Products LLC.
History
In the 1990s, when the Louisville International Airport began its expansion project, Bob
Ray Co. realized a need for a more economical way of removing large swaths of trees and
brush. And with Louisville’s MSD (Metropolitan Sewer District) starting its program of
upgrading the county’s sewer system, that need continued to grow. Bob Ray’s Land
Clearing department grew from an excavator, a track loader, and a whole-tree chipper,
operated by a crew of two to five excavators with specialty forestry attachments, two
horizontal grinders on tracks, track forestry mowers, stump grinders, and log skidders,
operated by a crew of 10.
Recycling and Chip Trucking
Originally, all byproducts from our removals were not being utilized. But, as Land Clearing
continued to grow and expand, we realized there was a need for an eco-friendly way to
make use of the by-products and a way to move them. This led to the formation of Chip
Trucking LLC, which has grown to moving an average 75 semi-tractor trailer loads of
byproduct weekly. All these materials are used in biofuel or hardwood mulch. And any
trees removed that are deemed appropriate for lumber is hauled directly to the sawmill.
For the Bob Ray Co., uppermost is the desire to be as land conscious and environmentally
friendly as possible, and we can do this in our complete recycling of all byproducts
generated from sites.
